MarcoFrame® for Architects

How is designing with LGSF different to traditional materials?

As the Architect, you may be unfamiliar with designing using Light Gauge Steel Framing (LGSF)…

Overall  it is not a lot different to traditional framing and is simple to grasp, in fact, architects often find it easier to design as all the bracing and lintel specifications are taken care of by Marco and modelled into the design.

Read on to find out more…

Working with non combustible LGSF allows for design flexibility that’s is not possible with traditional timber framing.

The high strength to weight ratio can reduce the need for intermediate columns and load bearing walls and gives the ability to utilise long spans.

It is also an advantage in situations where weight is critical for the slab design for certain soil types.

The standard developed by NASH (National Association of Steel Framed Housing) is intended to be an alternative solution verification method to the NZ Building Code in conjunction with NZ3604. This has very helpful info and gives you span tables and other details to assist you.

The movement towards LGSF is larger than ever in NZ (and worldwide) and it will be an advantage for you and your company to grasp this, as it will provide you more opportunities as builders move to building this way.

What Architects Say...

“We treat designing in LGSF the same as timber, in fact it is easier because we don’t have to specify bracing and lintels as this is taken care of by the steel frame manufacturers system.

The only thing you need to remember to include is the thermal break details. It is simple really.”

Design Flexibility

  • Steel framing is the choice for custom architectural designs.
  • Strength to weight ratios offers span capabilities to create cost effective open-plan spaces.

Rigorous Testing, Specify with Confidence

  • Straight, true and resistant to deformation.
  • Complies with all relevant New Zealand Standards.
  • Made to strict tolerances for thickness, width, coating and strength. No exceptions.

A Healthier, Safer Home

  • Does not require any preservatives or post-treatment to prolong its life.
  • Allergenic free, dust-free and minimises the use of insecticides.
  • Widely recognised as a healthier home, and backed by Asthma foundations across the world.

Reduced Fire Risk

  • Steel is a non-combustible material.
  • Won’t catch fire and presents minimum fire risk up to 300 degrees celcius.

Stronger for You, Better for the Environment

  • Marco Frame steel supports structural loads more effectively than timber using less material.
  • Steel is 100% recyclable.
Good environmental choice for future generations.

Exceptional warranties

  • In the New Zealand building industry today, It’s impossible to look beyond a product that comes with a 50 year warranty.
